World Class Referee comes over from Scotland to Instruct and Entertain Snooker enthusiast in Vancouver Michaela Tabb, who resides in Dunfermline, Scotland, is making the trip across the pond to instruct 15 eager individuals on what it takes to be a professional Snooker referee. Tabb began her career by playing competitive pool in 1991 at the young age of 23. Then around the mid 1990s with her husband Ross McInnes, a professional pool player, they started to run some amateur tournaments. Michaela jumped into refereeing these events and subsequently was encouraged by her husband to go after refereeing at a professional level. Things started to take off for Ms. Tabb, as she became one of the top referees, with the WPA World Nine Ball Championships and the Mosconi Cup to add to her résumé. In 2001, Jim McKenzie, the head of WPBSA at the time, wanted to shake up the old boys club of snooker and invited Michaela out to referee on the World Snooker scene. She attacked with vigor and zest to first woman to referee at professional snooker ranking event in 2002 and in 2009 she became the first female referee to tackle the duties at the World Championships at the famous Crucible theatre in Sheffield. She is a true trailblazer many more women are now getting into refereeing at the professional level in snooker. A friendly woman outside the table, but when it is time to get down to business on the table, Michaela exudes nothing but professionalism. In addition to teaching 15 snooker hopeful referees; she will be the guest of honour at Top 147 on March 14, 2019 during Snooker Canada’s Canadian Shootout. She will be leading her students by example as she jump into the tournament and perform refereeing duties herself. It is shaping up to be a great night down Richmond, and looks to be fun for all. At ticket prices at only $20 it is a steal to get meet this pioneer in the world of snooker.
