On Monday July 30th 2018, St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation is excited to launch the public phase of their campaign for the new Hospice at St. Joseph’s Villa. A special celebration will take place on grounds of the future site at 10:30 in the morning. His Excellency Bishop Douglas Crosby will celebrate with leading donors and members of the community, including Cabinet Minister the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors and Accessibility and Mayor Fred Eisenberger of Hamilton. Guests will be the first to learn the name of the new hospice and the key philanthropists whose contributions are leaving a lasting legacy of dignity and comfort for thousands of families for generations to come.

“Creating space and support for a sacred and dignified end of life is a natural extension of the Villa’s work”, said Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, DD, of the Diocese of Hamilton, who is serving as the Honourary Chair for this critical fundraising campaign. Hospice care specializes in addressing physical, psychological, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs for patients facing a life-limiting illness. It offers a community of care and a network of hope to support families and caregivers through all stages of a patient’s journey.

His Excellency Bishop Douglas Crosby is working with Dino Trevisani, IBM Senior Managing Director, HSBC, and Chairman, IBM Canada, in his role as Campaign Chair for the Hospice at St. Joseph’s Villa. “Projects like this are not possible without us coming together as a community in understanding that change and growth doesn’t just come from business leaders and government officials – it comes from individuals like you and I who understand what we want in our lives, what we want for our children, our parents and ourselves,” said Dino, who has witnessed the profound effect a dignified end-of-life experience had in his own family. While there is a growing need for hospice beds across the province of Ontario and within our region, there is currently no dedicated hospice in the West Hamilton area, making St. Joseph’s Villa perfectly positioned to serve individuals and families in need of such support. St. Joseph’s Villa embodies the dreams and ideals of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton. This expansion of Villa’s mission and leadership within the community will support families when they need it most – “hospice is not about curing, it’s about caring.”
