FESTIVAL CELEBRATES MANY SPIRITUAL PATHS, ONE HUMANITY.  People of all faiths are invited to an afternoon celebration at TCU Place on Sunday, October 22nd honouring the birth 200 years ago of a man who taught that all religions play a vital role in unifying humanity.

“Baha’u’llah brought forward a dynamic perspective of the world religions as unfolding chapters of divine guidance.  These great spiritual traditions share common principles at their core and each has united people of many diverse cultures,” explains Tamara Pearl, a long-time member of Saskatoon’s Baha’i’ community.

At a time steeped in religious and ethnic prejudice, Baha’u’llah’s vision of the oneness of humanity and its sacred traditions sparked a worldwide movement for spiritual renewal that became know as the Baha’i’ Faith.  The Baha’i’s of Saskatoon are planning multiple events for the month, culminating in the Light of Unity Festival at TC Place.

The free event is open to everyone, and features children’s activities, displays, music, and Syrian dance.  Spiritual reflection will include prayers in English and Cree and a Persian chant.

Featured performances include Joseph Naytowhow, singer-songwriter Farideh, fold musician Malika Sellami, choral music from the Marion Graham School Choir, and rap from Tallis and Jomei Newkirk.

The performances will be followed by an informal reception with refreshments and the premiere showing of the film LIGHT TO THE WORLD, about Baha’u’llah and the impact of his teachings.

“The Light of Unity Festival aims to inspire and connect the many people and groups in Saskatoon who recognize a need for fostering greater unity in diversity,” Pearl says.  “Baha’u’llah taught us we all share a common identity as citizens of one world and we’re inviting everyone to come help us celebrate.”
