Early Music Vancouver (EMV) presents Monteverdi’s opera, Orfeo, on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 3pm at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. GRAMMY award-winner and Monteverdi specialist, Stephen Stubbs, leads Pacific MusicWorks and tenor Colin Balzer in an “in concert” performance of this work considered to be the first unqualified masterpiece in the early history of opera. Including rich orchestration and a host of exotic instruments, Orfeo is a balance of pure jubilation and heart-wrenching tragedy that feels as fresh today as it must have been in the 17th century.
