D.W. Poppy Secondary is getting ready to host its 30th annual Car Show on Sunday May 7th! Our tradition of putting on one of the first car shows of the season brings many benefits for the school. We hope to see over 700 cars on display in our school back field, and welcome thousands of spectators. This is a family friendly all ages event. We are hoping to increase our spectator traffic this year to enjoy our show that includes up to 700 collector cars, vendors, concession, 50/50 draws, car show t-shirt sales and more. The event is our school’s biggest fundraiser and benefits our entire school including the shops and school technology, athletic teams, dry grad and many others. The shop and tech ed departments are able to purchase tools and technology that are used for the student’s projects and around the school – this year the wish list includes a Spray Wash Solvent Tank, a Sand Blaster, a Hydraulic Pipe bender and computer technology including a Document Reader. By volunteering to help with the show, it teaches our students the value of contributing to, and being part of a community and the importance of giving back. Their volunteer time at the car show offers them increased opportunities thru the school that enrich their academic experience such as athletic trips, the school race car, Dry Grad celebration and more. You will find students helping out on the day of the show at the concession, the gates, on the grounds and during setup/clean up. It is also an opportunity for the school to connect and network with the local community – this year we are again looking forward to welcoming the Fort Langley Lions Club who will be offering a pancake breakfast in the morning to our exhibitors and spectators. Early Bird Registration for cars is $10 and will open on March 10th until May 5th or sold out, and is available online thru https://www.brownpapertickets.com/user/manageevent/2893791 or in person at the school office from 7:45-3:15 Monday- Friday March 27th following Spring Break. Registration at the show if minimum donation of $15 and public entry starting at 9 am – 3 pm is minimum donation $3.00.
