Winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize and produced by Blackout Art Society, English follows four Iranian adults as they prepare for an English exam. As grammar drills and pronunciation exercises unfold, the students start to question what is gained and lost when learning a new language. With warmth, humour, and piercing insight, English explores cultural displacement, migration, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of a different future.
