Wake up to spring with a concert celebrating the vibrant and expressive world of handbell music. The program features works written especially for handbells, including Land of the Silver Birch, Contemplations by Ron Mallory, and Festival Intrada by Cynthia Dobrinski. Overtones Handbell ensemble is conducted by Edmonton renown Tammy-Jo Mortenson. But the celebration doesn’t stop there. Cosmopolitan’s advanced Monday Band will also perform highlights from its repertoire, including the exhilarating Festival Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich. Written in 1954 under extraordinary circumstances, the Festival Overture was composed in just three days after the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra suddenly required a new work to mark the October Revolution. The Monday Band is conducted by Curtis Bain.
