The Neuroplasticity, Imagery, and Motor Behaviour Laboratory in conjunction with the Department of Psychology at The University of British Columbia Okanagan, The Dana Foundation, and the International Brain Research Organization is organizing an event for Brain Awareness Week on March 14, 2025, from 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

Brain Awareness Week is global campaign to foster the community’s enthusiasm and support for everything neuroscience! Every March, hosts around the world introduce creative activities and seminars in their communities that share the mysteries of the brain as well as the impact that neuroscience research has on our everyday lives. Event hosts can include, universities, hospitals, medical research facilities, K-12 schools, government agencies and more! As one of the top research-based universities in the country, the University of British Columbia Okanagan wants to share the brain-related research that is underway at our facilities with the broader community. We are holding laboratory tours, ‘snack time’, and a small version of the ‘Brain Bee”, with the chance to win raffle prizes from local businesses, for the broader community, including several other neuro-related organizations.

On March 14th, 2025, from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm individuals of any age can visit various laboratory and classroom locations where the researchers and laboratory team members will take them on a tour and present some of the research that is ongoing in their laboratory! Attendees will meet a volunteer ‘tour guide’ that will take them on a tour route during the course of the event! Following the keynote at 3:30-4:00pm, the format changes to an open house so attendees can visit the laboratory locations of their choosing with a map provided to them! There is a chance to win one of many raffle prizes from local businesses! There is also a “Snack Time” room where food and drinks will be provided! At 3:30pm, Dr. Brodie Sakakibara will be presenting the keynote, delving into the nuances of neurorehabilitation, here is where the winners of the raffle will be announced.

We are contacting several organizations to advertise our event as communicating brain research to the community can help foster an understanding for how our brains work as well as highlight the ongoing research on brain-related deficits such as stroke. We would greatly appreciate your support in advertising and spreading the word about this event to our community. I have attached the poster and EventBrite Link (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brain-awareness-week-2025-tickets-1256989191509?aff=oddtdtcreator) for registration.
