Veterans Funding Drive, Supported by Global Calgary & QR Calgary - image

Canadian Legacy Project First remains steadfast in our mission to support those that have stood on guard for Canada. We do this by developing and presenting FREE programing to assist Canadian Armed Forces Veterans to successfully transition back to civilian life. Our programing focuses on housing, food, education, and operational stress injuries. Canadian Legacy Project was formed in 2008 and is volunteer directed, ensuring funding gets to those who need it most. (CRA Registered Charity Number 82478 8202 RR0001). www.canadianlegacy.org

In 2023 while offering our core programing, we added innovative programing for our female Veterans. Sadly, research has shown that female Veterans are twice as likely to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress from their service, then their male counters parts. Unfortunately, this PTSD is more often based on incidents within the Canadian Armed Forces, rather than operational missions.  As a result, our female Veterans are three times more likely to become unhoused, than their male counter partners. Due to these staggering numbers, new to the Canadian Legacy Project family is our support of two new initiatives: the Peper Pod and Three Sister Equine.

The Pepper Pod’s mission is to connect women in tightly knit tribes that support one another as they navigate life’s adventures as a Veteran. They serve our community by creating National programs specifically designed for women Veterans and give them an opportunity to connect through a multitude of National events throughout the year. The Pepper Pod was founded by Sandra Perron—Canada’s first female infantry officer and best-selling author of the memoir, “Out Standing in the Field.” Her mission? To build an inspirational community for women Veterans.

Homes For Heroes is a first of its kind program in Canada. With the goal to end the issue of Veteran homelessness, the program builds tiny home villages, with full support services to help the tenants reintegrate back to civilian life. There are now Veterans Villages operating in Calgary and Edmonton with villages opening in Kingston and Winnipeg. As a founding partner, Canadian Legacy Project work closely with Homes For Heroes and is the lead partner of the Veteran Tenant Moral and Well Being Fund.  The fund is designed to help the Veteran tenants with their key living and support expenses such as medical supplies & fees, pharmaceutical supplies, bus passes, physical activity programs, emergency transportation, replacement identification costs, and more.

Mobile Canteen is in it’s second year and is designed to help our Veterans across Canada that are living in poverty.  Homelessness and food security are issues that our Veterans should not have to worry about, but sadly across Canada there are Veterans who are experiencing both. Mobile Canteen is proving to be a fast, easy, and safe means to distribute hot meals to our Veterans in need through partnering food trucks across Canada.

Heroes Mending On The Fly continues its growth across Canada, with program offerings in every Province. This PTSD Fly Fishing program has Veterans coming together to learn the art of flying fishing which has shown to be successful in coping with Post Traumatic Stress. Within a team atmosphere Veteran participants start with learning to tie flies, move towards learning to cast in local waters, and then are treated to a three-day fly-fishing retreat. The partnership is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of Veterans with Operational Stress Injuries through fly-tying, fly-fishing and associated activities including education and outings.

The willingness of our Canadian Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude. Our supporters are a special type of people that change lives, lift people up, and make the world a better place.
