Join Calgary Public Library for a series of events that give space to people and stories that honour, educate, and shine a spotlight on Black history in Canada.

Jon Cornish, Chancellor of the University of Calgary and former Calgary Stampeder, in partnership with the Chinook Country Historical Society, will be hosting a special event on February 13 at Central Library. Power and Privilege in an Intersectional Life will explore the complexities of Jon’s unique journey as a person of mixed heritage and what it is like navigating a world rife with stereotypes and misconceptions.

The Library will also be screenings several films that explore Black history and the experiences and contributions of Black people in Canada:

  • True North: Inside the Rise of Toronto Basketball – February 12
  • John Ware Reclaimed – February 25
  • The Road Taken – February 29
