The word olio means a stew or a collection of things. In this case it is a new performance created by five choreographers for the DJD Company with music by a live jazz trio.  Olio plays at the DJD Dance Centre from January 18 – 28 as part of the High Performance Rodeo.

The show features choreography by DJD artistic director Kimberley Cooper, company dancers Catherine Hayward, Sabrina Naz Comǎnescu and Kaja Irwin; and DJD alumnus Deanne Walsh. The DJD dancers are Shahrzad Ahmadi, Thys Armstrong, Cassandra Bowerman, Sabrina Naz Comănescu, Mara Liao Esnard, Catherine Hayward, Kaja Irwin, Simeon Peters and Shemar Hebert (Apprentice). The jazz trio is led by Jonathan McCaslin (composer/drummer) with Jon Wielebnowski (bass) and Chris Tauchner (piano/keyboards). Costumes are by Hannah Fisher, with lighting by Steve Isom.

Throughout its more than 39-year history, DJD has become well-known throughout Canada and beyond, as one of the only professional dance companies with jazz music and dance as its raison d’etre. The company has created more than 65 original productions since its inception, many with live music.
