The rallies come just weeks before a federal Joint Review Panel is set to deliver a final report on the proposal.

“I’m concerned about our water, our land, our air, I’ve got kids and as far as I`m concerned we’re sacrificing our kids,” said Lori Timbol, a protestor.

From Vancouver to Nunavut there were over 130 rallies across the country today.

First nations groups have also, for the most part, rejected any idea of signing on.

Stephen Harper’s vision of Canada becoming an energy superpower depends, on some level, on the construction this pipeline. With no way to transport bitumen to the Pacific coast, crucial oil revenue would be lost.

But for all the negative sentiment, if you ask Enbridge, momentum for the project is building — this after BC and Alberta came to an agreement on the five conditions earlier this month.
