TORONTO – Toronto city councillors are debating whether to strip Mayor Rob Ford of some powers and urge him to take a leave of absence Wednesday morning.

This included a petition signed by 30 of the city’s 44 councillors, which called for Ford to resign, presented before Ford admitted he’s bought illegal drugs since becoming mayor.

Ford repeated he is “absolutely keeping this job,” a sentiment that’s been expressed since he admitted to using crack cocaine, and in the wake of a newly released video showing him in an enraged and “extremely inebriated” state.

Then Ford proposed a motion to have all members of council undergo drug and alcohol testing, paid for by the mayor…

And then council voted for Ford to take a leave of absence.
