Four VPD officers hurt in West End restaurant crash

Four Vancouver police officers are recovering from their injuries this morning after a car crashed through the windows of a West End fast food restaurant on Sunday.

Witnesses say the officers were having dinner at Fatburger on Denman Street just shortly after 8:00 p.m. when a BMW left the street and crashed through the restaurant’s front windows.

All four officers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries that ranged from broken bones to chest pain.

The injured officers have between one and nine years of service and were all assigned to patrol duties in the downtown core.

They have since been released from hospital and are recovering at home from various injuries.

Police say a 30-year old woman was driving south of Denman, when the car abruptly left the road and crashed into the building.

While officers say it’s still early in the investigation, speed or alcohol was not a factor. Police will be looking into whether the female driver was using her cell phone at the time of the accident.

Any witnesses are encouraged to call investigators at 604-717-3321.
