Queen Elizabeth Park Road re-opens ahead of schedule

Motorists heading downtown from the southside will now be able to take that left turn to Queen Elizabeth Park Road. Global News

EDMONTON – Good news for downtown commuters: Queen Elizabeth Park Road is once again open to traffic.

The road was shut down July 15 for slope re-grading and road realignment as part of the Walterdale Bridge replacement project.

It was initially scheduled to remain closed until November, but the City says that date got pushed up thanks to “cooperative weather, diligent work crews and effective project management.”

Both Queen Elizabeth Park Road and Walterdale Hill Road will experience temporary closures over the next two years, but the two will be open during the winter months. The City adds there will always be access to one of the two roads so traffic can continue to flow across the bridge during construction of the new bridge, which is expected to open to traffic in late 2015.
