SASKATOON – The people of Saskatoon are rallying in support of a 57-year-old mom who hasn’t had the easiest life.

Doris Lemke’s daughter died of cancer at the age of 12 and now her 22-year-old son is battling a serious illness.

She’s been through a lot, but when thieves stole all the apples from a tree in her front yard, Lemke couldn’t take anymore.

She posted an angry tirade on Kijiji, asking why the thieves didn’t just ask her for some apples.

Lemke says she was planning to make applesauce for her son, who has trouble eating food.

But thanks to the kindness of strangers, there is a happy ending to this sad story.

People have been offering Lemke farm vegetables, they’ve been dropping off food on her doorstep — one man even gave her a gift certificate for groceries.

Lemke says it just goes to show that in the end, people are kind.

And to the thieves who pruned her tree she says — how do you like them apples?
