Huskies star receiver set to return in week 2

SASKATOON – After a breakthrough season in 2012, University of Saskatchewan Huskies receiver Kit Hillis injured his ankle this off-season, which forced him to miss all of training camp while an actual return date was unknown.

Watching from the sidelines was excruciating for Hillis, as he had a hard time hiding his frustration.

“It’s amazing how frustrating injuries can get” Hillis said before Huskies practice on Tuesday. “To work so hard in the off-season and not be able to be out with the boys on the field hurts.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

But after a pair of practices late last week, against the odds, Hillis suited up and was on the sidelines for the Huskies season opening game against the Regina Rams on Friday.

“Something just clicked and finally had some sort of miraculous turn around. I can’t fully explain it.”

Hillis remained on the sidelines for the entire game on Friday, but expects to practice all week long and make his on field debut Saturday against Winnipeg, which will add another dynamic play maker to the Huskies offence.

“I’m feeling ready to go so we’ll see how things turn out”
