Wahlberg brothers to open burger restaurant in Toronto
TORONTO — Celebrity siblings Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg announced Wednesday they will open a Canadian outlet of their Wahlburgers restaurant in Toronto.
The two stars and their brother, chef Paul Wahlberg, created the comfort food eatery in 2011 in their hometown of Boston.
The Toronto restaurant will be located in the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel on Wellington Street at Peter Street.
“Having spent a lot of time in the city, we have a strong connection to Toronto and appreciate the vibrant food culture,” said Paul Wahlberg, in a release.
Mark Wahlberg, a frequent guest at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), has made several films in the city over the years, including Max Payne, Four Brothers, The Corruptor and The Big Hit. He also reportedly purchased a multi-million-dollar condo in Yorkville.
Donnie Wahlberg has performed in Toronto several times as a member of New Kids on the Block and shot two Saw sequels and the film Dead Silence in the city.
The Wahlburgers menu includes different kinds of burgers and homemade BBQ sauce as well as sandwiches and salads. Side dishes include potato tots, fries, onion rings and macaroni salad.
The restaurant will consist of a sports bar, dining area and take-out counter.
Mark Wahlberg will join Paul and other VIP guests at a “green carpet” event at SoHo Metropolitan Hotel on Sept. 9 during TIFF to celebrate the announcement.
The first Canadian outlet of Wahlburgers is expected to open early next year.
