FALL RIVER, N.S. – Halifax-area RCMP are investigating a fire that destroyed a house under construction in Fall River, N.S. early Monday morning.

Police say the fire at the home on lot 409 Ballentyne Way was spotted around 12:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fires within the hour, but were still at the scene Monday morning.

The RCMP K-9 unit investigated the building’s perimeter overnight, but did not determine what started the fire. RCMP investigators will begin to sift through the remains of the house sometime after dawn, said Cpl. John Stoddart. He said it is unlikely there were any witnesses because the building is in a remote area in a new subdivision.

Before the fire, the building’s walls had been raised, but electricity was not hooked up. Halifax Regional Municipality records show that the property was registered as a subdivision on April 15, 2013. Signs at the scene of the fire show the home was being built by Roof Tight construction.
