Chris Brown’s concert in Winnipeg, other Canadian locations cancelled

HALIFAX – The promoter of four Chris Brown concerts in Canada — including August 29th in Winnipeg — says the events have been cancelled. Brown was supposed to headline the Energy Rush festival; the whole event is now put off until next year.

Stephen Tobin, owner of Drop Entertainment Group, says the decision was made after consulting Brown and in light of his recent personal and health-related issues.

Brown was scheduled to perform in Halifax, Saint John, N.B., Toronto and Winnipeg.

Halifax Mayor Mike Savage spoke out against Brown’s performance in his city, saying he was disappointed he had been invited because he didn’t think the performer is a good role model.
Brown’s publicist, Nicole Perna, said the award winning R&B singer regrets that he won’t be able to perform for his Canadian fans at this time. “Chris appreciates the support of his many thousands of fans north of the border,” said Perna. “He is going to use this time to focus on himself and on the release of his upcoming album. Chris looks forward to performing in Canada very soon.”

On Friday, the R&B star had his probation reinstated and was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community labour after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run accident.

The hit-and-run charge was dismissed earlier, but he agreed to a deal worked out in the chambers of a Los Angeles judge.

Brown also suffered a seizure earlier this month.

Brown has been dealing with a series of legal problems since 2009, when he was arrested for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna and was first placed on probation.

He has had subsequent run-ins with the law since then, for assault and traffic accidents.

“After ongoing conversation and consultation with this year’s headline act Chris Brown, and in light of the performer’s recent personal and health-related issues, we have come to the mutual decision to cancel all four scheduled performances,” said Drop Entertainment Group owner Stephen Tobin. “In the absence of a festival headliner, we cannot proceed. We will start planning immediately for next year’s events and the Energy/Summer Rush series will be back in 2014, bigger and better than ever.”
True North Sports and Entertainment says refunds for all scheduled events will be available at original point of purchase starting Thursday, Aug. 22. For further refund information:
