The Stanley Cup is coming back to Winnipeg, though not with the Jets as many fans would prefer. Instead, another hometown hockey hero is bringing the game’s holy grail.

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, a born and bred Winnipegger, will show off Lord Stanley’s mug Friday at the community centre that bears his name from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Jonathan Toews Community Centre is located at 1188 Dakota St. Toews and the Blackhawks won the coveted NHL championship trophy this past season.

Mayor Sam Katz invited citizens  to come out and congratulate Toews.

“Many young hockey players look up to Jonathan Toews, not only for his achievements throughout his hockey career, but also for his generosity and caring off the ice,” Katz said in a news release Monday. “I know that many Winnipeggers will be thrilled to have the opportunity to meet Jonathan and see the Stanley Cup up close.”
