SASKATOON – Homes in low-lying areas of Saskatoon are expected to escape flooding, despite high flows on the South Saskatchewan River.

Levels have been rising in recent days after heavy rain in both Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The peak in Saskatoon was expected around mid-afternoon yesterday, about 30 centimetres above what was experienced during high water in 2005.

City officials say Saskatoon’s drinking water supply is safe, but they’ve restricted access to low-lying roads and parts of the Meewasin Valley Trail along the river’s edge.
