St. Albert fire ban lifted

File / Global News

Edmonton – The fire ban in the City of St. Albert has been lifted because of recent rain and cooler temperatures.

The fire danger rating for St. Albert is now considered to be moderate to low. The rating is calculated using the Fire Weather index which considers temperatures, wind conditions, humidity and fuel moisture levels.

Despite an end to the fire ban, St. Albert Fire Services is asking residents to reduce potential fire hazards by properly disposing of cigarette butts, using fire pits for recreational purposes only including campfires and cooking, inspect BBQ gas grills, and keeping yards free of debris by raking up poplar fuzz, leaves and picking up garbage.

“While the fire ban has been lifted, we are urging residents to use caution with any outdoor burning,” said Fire Chief Ray Richards in a City of St. Albert news release. “Conditions can change at any time, which can quickly increase the risk of fires.”
