SAINT JOHN, N.B. – More work is needed on New Brunswick’s Point Lepreau nuclear reactor.

A major refurbishment at the plant only wrapped up in November.

But the president of NB Power says the reactor’s fuel caps are too tight and they’ll have to be replaced in the next year or two.

Gaetan Thomas says Atomic Energy of Canada will have to foot the bill for the replacement.

He says it’s a warranty issue.

Thomas says some adjustments to the plugs will be made in the short-term.

The plug issue has slowed refuelling of the reactor and forced the plant to run at just 35 per cent capacity.

Thomas says he expects the power output to be increased over the coming weeks.
