Cyclist killed after hit by bus in L’Assomption

MONTREAL — A 27-year old cyclist from the off-island town of St-Sulpice lost his life on Monday when he was hit by a small bus.

Police suspect that blustery winds gusting up to 49 kilometres per hour may have pushed him into the path of the adapted transport bus, said Agent Sophie Légaré with the L’Assomption police force.

The accident happened at 4:20 p.m. on Montée St-Sulpice in L’Assomption, about 40 kilometres northeast of Montreal.

“We don’t know why the cyclist went into the path of the bus, but the driver tried to avoid him and she was not able (to),” said Légaré.

Emergency medical technicians attempted to revive the young man on site and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
