“I really wanted to do something big.”
Kelowna Secondary student Hanna Turner-Gervais accomplished just that.
Her mixed media art piece is one of the biggest in the exhibit at the Kelowna Art Gallery
“I really like the maps, I think maps are really interesting, and I really like cut wood. I usually work with acrylic so I wanted to incorporate that too.”
Turner-Gervais piece is part of more than 100 hanging in the gallery for the 27th Annual Art in Action exhibit.
It’s a collaboration between the gallery and School District 23.
School Board Trustee Joyce Brinkerhoff says the yearly exhibit is meant to celebrate students who have more a creative flare, “That’s what is the important part in school, that every learner can be celebrated. Whether it is an individual talent, a group talent or physical, all of it is valuable.”
For Turner-Gervais, she sees the value lasting even beyond school, “I really think I’ll continue with art probably forever.”
The Art in Action exhibit will be on view at the Kelowna Art Gallery until June 2.
