EDMONTON- Three stray dogs who were found badly burned have received a second chance.
The dogs were brought in to Guardian Veterinary Centre in Edmonton Wednesday morning, after being found with chronic burns across their backs. A surgeon at the clinic says the burns appear to be about two weeks old.
“We believe these burns are thermal or chemical in nature,” said Dr. Colin Sereda, a Veterinary Surgeon at Guardian Veterinary Centre.
Two of the dogs required immediate surgery, while the third was taken to intensive care.
“It’s hard to comprehend,” Sereda said. “You can’t understand why somebody would do that or take that out on three, very seemingly, happy healthy dogs otherwise.”
“We deal with a lot of mistreated stray animals. But, this case is extremely cruel. It is horrible. These poor dogs have been running around the community for at least two weeks with these injuries,” added Alison Foxford from Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS).
SCARS rescued the animals from a rural Alberta community.
“We will try to find healthy and happy homes for these beautiful and happy dogs. Despite what has happened to them, they are incredibly gentle and calm,” Foxford said.
The three dogs have been nicknamed Tan, Brown and Black for now, because of the colour of their fur. Once the dogs are healthy, they will be put up for adoption through SCARS.
