Jennifer Lawrence to make new ‘X-Men’ film in Montreal

TORONTO – A number of movie stars – including Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence – are heading to Montreal to start work on the latest installment in the X-Men franchise.

Lawrence will be joined by Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Lawrence, who made the horror flick House at the End of the Street in Ottawa, won Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards for her work in Silver Linings Playbook. The Hunger Games star was nominated for an Oscar for 2010’s Winter’s Bone.

The X-Men: Days of Future Past cast also includes Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, James McEvoy, Peter Dinklage and Canadian stars Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore.

Director Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two X-Men movies, is currently in Montreal preparing for the shoot, which begins mid-April inside Mel’s Cité du Cinema.

A number of the stars have worked in the city before. Jackman spent time in Montreal making 2006’s The Fountain, Fassbender was in the city filming 2006’s 300 and Nicholas Hoult made the recently-released Warm Bodies in Montreal.

Berry made headlines when she broke her arm in Montreal while making 2003’s Gothika.

Canada is familiar territory for the X-Men films: 2000’s X-Men was filmed in Southern Ontario, 2003’s X-Men 2: X-Men United was made in Ontario and B.C., and 2006’s X-Men: Last Stand was shot in B.C.

Several scenes for 2009’s X-Men: Wolverine were filmed in Vancouver.

X-Men: Days of Future Past, due in cinemas in July 2014, will be shot in 3D.
