Millennium Park was packed with crowds of people on Sunday for Peterborough’s first VegFest. About 40 food vendors from Peterborough and other areas filled the park for the event, which is also hosted in other cities around the world.

Organizers were elated with the turnout for what they hope might be an annual event, focused on a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

“We have speakers that come and answer your questions about vegan [and] vegetarian nutrition,” said local Veg Fest chair Natalie Stephenson. “It’s a healthy and complete diet if you do it in the right way — it can be healthy for all ages.”

“What brought me here today [is] my amazing daughter Michelle,” Woodhouse said. “She introduced me to information to do with veganism. Just by changing my diet alone, my cholesterol levels went down.”

At Veg Fest, Woodhouse got to indulge in a variety of vegan and vegetarian foods, including a Nanashake popsicle made exclusively with plant-based ingredients.

“We make an entire lineup of frozen desserts using fair trade organic bananas, a medley of nuts, and other plant-based ingredients,” explained Nanashake co-founder Yazeed Yasin.
