Hype about Trump/Putin meeting is overblown

If you haven’t already heard, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will have a face-to-face meeting at the G20 summit in Germany on Friday.

We’re told that it will be the first time the two have met, although many observers are rather skeptical of that claim, given the overwhelming evidence of Russian interference in the most recent U.S. presidential election and the ongoing concerns about Trump’s alleged  financial ties to Russia.

Nonetheless, the buzz about the meeting is over the top and frankly, not worth the hype.

Does anyone really think that Trump will ask Putin about Russian interference in the election?

Does anyone think that Putin will demand the return of Russian assets seized under the Obama administration?

Fact is, these kinds of meetings  are mostly just orchestrated photo opportunities where nothing of substance is achieved.

That’s not to suggest that we shouldn’t be concerned about these two leaders.

We know that there’s evidence to indicate Trump’s strong business ties in Russia and we know that members of Trump’s inner circle have strong ties to the Russians.

Let’s face it; the real question we want answered is, how much influence does the Kremlin exert over the White House, and we’re not likely to get answers to that very pertinent question any time soon.
