WINNIPEG — A 32-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder and a number of other firearms charges after a fatal shooting, according to police.
Sunday at 6:15 p.m. emergency crews responded to reports of a man down in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue.
William George Sumner, 27, was found and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The homicide unit investigation revealed that “an adult male and his associates” were in the home on Pritchcard Avenue when a dispute happened. A handgun was produced and Sumner was shot a number of times.
Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. the same suspect was travelling near Logan Avenue and Keewatin Street when he was a part of some sort of “driving complaint”, police said. The suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at a motorist.
Thursday morning police spotted the suspect’s vehicle and followed it to a home in the 1800 block of Logan Avenue. The tactical unit along with ARV1 secured the area and arrested Cameron Bounthieng Kinnavanthong without incident.
A search warrant was executed at the Logan Avenue home and officers recovered a handgun and an automatic assault rifle.
Kinnavanthong faces a number of charges:
- Second degree murder
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose x 2
- Point firearm
- Unauthorized possession of firearm x 2
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized x 2
- Possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized x 3
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm contrary to order x 2
