WINNIPEG — A residential parking ban is in effect across Winnipeg but no tickets have been issued for drivers that haven’t moved their vehicles.
As of 7 a.m. on Friday, Winnipeg drivers were asked to know their residential zone and corresponding letter to avoid getting a ticket or a tow. However, so far no tickets have actually been issued for the drivers that have decided to chance it and leave their cars on the roads with parking bans.

The City of Winnipeg explained on its website that that is a result of tickets only being able to be issued between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. because of the Highway Traffic Act. The website said the Highway Traffic Act only permits ticketing without signage during this time frame and winter parking bans extend beyond these hours.
In the mean time, for the vehicles that were parked Friday in zones that were being plowed, they were either given a courtesy tow or were simply plowed around. Something that caused a headache for many grader operators.
“That’s our biggest nightmare, just getting by the cars,” John Saunby, a grader operator said.
