A 22-year-old man has died following a shooting one block away from Halifax Regional Police Headquarters Monday night.
“We don’t believe it was a random incident,” said Staff Sgt. Bill Morris at the scene, noting that the investigation is in its infancy. “We believe there’s one, possibly two suspects.”

The suspects were seen running from the area, he added.
A 911 call about several shots fired and a man being hit near the intersection of Gottingen and Falkland streets came in at about 10:47 p.m.
The victim was in the driver’s seat of a dark-coloured car, which was parked in a small parking lot south of the intersection.
Before he was put on a stretcher, a woman near or in the car could be heard screaming, “Why?”
The victim was transported to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police set up checkpoints around downtown Halifax after the incident because it was believed the suspects may have fled in a vehicle. As of 11:30 p.m., police were were still canvassing the area.
Diners at Field Guide, a restaurant directly across the street from the scene, said they didn’t hear shots because the music inside was loud. They said a woman who was locking up her bicycle outside at the time of the incident walked into the restaurant traumatized.
Other people in the area said they heard about four shots.
Morris said it’s too early to say if the shooting is connected to several other shootings that happened this year.
Last April, a shooting just steps from Monday night’s crime scene left one man dead.
Last week, a man was killed in a shooting less than a kilometre away near Gottingen Street.
