An Ontario man has been charged with child luring after youth in Warman, Sask., say they were inappropriately approached online.

Warman RCMP said Robert Sowell, 35, was arrested by members of the Hamilton police internet child exploitation unit.

Sowell, who is from Hamilton, is charged with luring a child under the age of 14, making sexually explicit material available to a child, possession of child pornography and failing to comply with a recognizance.

The investigation was launched after Warman RCMP received a complaint that someone using the online name of “Whoami30000” was attempting to lure children in the community.

Police said the interactions, which took place on a number of different social media applications, originated in Hamilton.

In one instance, police said a youth reported that an inappropriate conversation took place.

It is unknown if Sowell is one of nine people arrested by Hamilton police following an investigation into the sexual assault of a child.

Police in the Ontario city said on Thursday that they were alerted to the possible sexual assault of a child by the Catholic Children’s Aid Society on May 3.

A 40-year-old man is facing close to 40 charges and the girl’s mother is charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.
