All great hockey players have nicknames, it’s just part of the game. So we at Global News started wondering: what should Winnipeg Jets forward. Patrik Laine be called?

Some have suggested the second overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft take on Teemu Selanne’s title of the Finnish Flash. The two do share a home country and characteristics. However, Selanne isn’t quite ready to let his hard-earned nickname go.

“No it’s not good,” Selanne said. “You have to find something more personable with him.”

Laine currently leads all rookies in goals. In fact, his eight goals is tied with Sidney Crosby and Artem Anisimov for tops in the league.
