Is Alice Moore the world’s biggest Toronto Blue Jays fan?
There's no doubt Canadians from coast-to-coast have been cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays lately. A lot of people claim to be the Jays biggest fan but we're going to introduce you to a woman who has cheered on her team since their very first game, almost 40 years ago. Global's Natasha Pace reports – Oct 7, 2016

At 99 years old, Alice Moore is showing no signs of slowing down: especially when it comes to cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays.

Moore, who lives in a seniors residence in Halifax, doesn’t just like to watch the ball games, she gets all decked out for them — sporting Blue Jays earrings, a jersey, hat and even a pair of shoes from the last time Toronto won the World Series in 1993.

“I never played baseball and I don’t know why I got so interested,” Moore told Global News.

The Halifax senior says she has loved baseball for more than seven decades and has been a Jays fan since the team played their first game in April 1977.

“She’s always been a Blue Jays fan and a very, very good Blue Jays fan,” Glenn Moore, Alice’s son, said.

“I think she would give up anything or wouldn’t go anywhere if she couldn’t get to see or watch the game. We’ve had times where … we have to go somewhere and [she says] ‘no, I want to watch the game.'”

Sheila Margeson, Moore’s caregiver, says seeing the happiness she has while watching the Jays play is indescribable.

“She gives so much joy to everybody she meets. She gives so much joy to me and she’s made me a true Blue Jays fan.”

For the last 10 years, Moore has lived in a retirement home where her love of baseball hasn’t gone unnoticed by her fellow residents. One man gave her a baseball from a game in Toronto and another woman gave her one of her most prized possessions: a Toronto Blue Jays bear, named of course, Jay.

“I think certainly, we have lots of residents that are enjoying a renewed interest in sports just because of Alice. She really brings everybody together in our community,” Dana Power, general manager of Parkland Retirement Living said.

Moore clearly remembers the last time Toronto won the World Series and is hoping the Jays can recapture the glory of the early ’90s with another World Series win.

“I think it would make me a few years younger,” Moore said. “Since I’m 99 now, I’d like to be around to watch some more ball games.”
