A Calgary senior has once again been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a little girl. But this time, Ronald Pearson remains behind bars.

Pearson, 68, was first arrested back in June and released on a promise to appear in court.

At the time, he was charged with sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl as well as sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

But another alleged victim has come forward, leading to more charges.

Court documents show Pearson is now charged with sexually assaulting another little girl, as well as possessing and making child pornography.

The father of the original victim in this case told Global News he’s not surprised by the new charges.

“Just sick … what else can you say? I am relieved he’s locked up,” the father said.

He said he sympathizes with the family of the second girl. He said his daughter is struggling to deal with the ongoing impact of the abuse.

“I’ve taken steps and matters to protect my daughter. I’ve quit my job and become a full-time dad just to stay home so she feels safe when she goes to bed at night and feels safe when she gets to go to school in the morning,” he said.

“It’s been a really tough thing on our whole family. I’m just hoping she can recover from this,” he continued.

The father is warning other parents to pay extra attention to the people they put their trust in.

“It’s the people you don’t expect. The neighbour, the babysitter, the uncle. It’s always the one you don’t expect that you have to worry about,” he said.

When contacted by Global News in June, Pearson denied the allegations.

“There’s nothing to say. I’m not guilty of them and we will prove that in a court of law,” Pearson said.

“It’s not easy. It’s not easy on my kids, it’s not easy on myself. I’m not guilty and that’s as plain and simple as you can get it,” he said.
