FILE: RCMP. RCMP / File

A man has died after the logging truck he was driving lost control and veered down a steep embankment in the Fernie, B.C. area early Friday morning.

RCMP believe poor weather and road conditions may have been a factor.

In a news release Friday, RCMP said a fully-loaded logging truck was travelling along Elk River Forest Service Road  around 6:20 a.m. when it rolled and went off the road.

The truck went down a steep embankment, trapping the driver who was the lone occupant. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP have confirmed there was heavy rain at the time of the accident.

As of noon the truck was still stuck with the driver inside, and efforts were continuing to access the site. The terrain is making access unsafe.
