You see a lot of things while riding public transit but usually a wedding is not one of them.

A couple who met on the Canada Line three years ago officially tied the knot on board the SkyTrain in a fast-moving ceremony Thursday.

You could say they started their marriage off on the right track.

Nathaly and Jeff Narin boarded the Expo Line at Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain station dolled up in matrimonial attire – including a white wedding dress – along with bridesmaids and a live band Thursday afternoon.

With TransLink’s permission, they even had the car decked out with rose petals, flowers, and curtains to mark the occasion.

It was a celebration of a love story that began on Vancouver’s public transit system in 2013, according to TransLink’s The Buzzer blog.

The couple say they met on the fateful day when Jeff was commuting to business meetings in Richmond and Nathaly was searching for a job in south Vancouver. They both boarded the Canada Line and instantly recognized each other from a past encounter.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It only took three stops for sparks to fly.

The idea to get married on the train wasn’t obvious at first.

“We didn’t dream of getting married on a train,” the couple told TransLink. “The idea came up in very whimsical fashion, way before our engagement, after encountering a group of people that were going to party on the train to celebrate Halloween. We thought, ‘Hey…wouldn’t that be fun?’ We also thought it would be a lovely way to honour the way we met three years earlier.”

“People wanted to just play along and make it special,” Nathaly told Global News. “We are just really happy we were able to do this.”
