REGINA – In honour of its 25th anniversary, the Cathedral Village Arts Festival is launching a new walking tour, called “Village Voices.”

The unique take on walking tours see local artists, residents and business owners sharing the history of the Cathedral neighborhood.

Evie Ruddy, the artist in residence for the Cathedral Village Arts Festival, created the audio walking tour to celebrate this “vibrant community.”

“When I started to make this walking tour I didn’t want it to be ‘Oh here’s a sculpture and this is the date that it was installed and this is who made it’ with just dry facts and dates,” Ruddy said.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Among the many highlights – people can stroll by Tommy Douglas’ old house or listen to a love story that began at a 13th Avenue shoe store.

The self-guided tour takes approximately an hour and a half to complete. The 15 stops on the tour are geo-located and stories play automatically as the listener gets closer to each of the stops.

“It’s a really great opportunity to learn more about the community, to learn where that art came from,” Ruddy said. “There’s one interview with a graffiti artist who paints the murals on Brandee’s every year and he tells his story about how he got into graffiti. So we get to learn a little bit more about the people who live in this community.”

Residents simply need to download the izi.travel app onto their smart phones, plug in their headphones and learn.
