Jordan Segura was raised by a hardworking single mother. He is remembered as a loyal and dutiful son, who always took the time to express his love and admiration to his mother, Patty. “We had one life…so the loss is huge.”

Segura, 22, Lawrence Hong, 27, Kaiti Perras, 23, Joshua Hunter, 23, Zackariah Rathwell, 21, and Jordan Segura, 22, were murdered at an end-of-the-school-year party in Calgary’s Brentwood neighbourhood on April 15, 2014.

Segura’s older brother, Jullien, spoke about the tremendous absence in the home since his death.
“No person can ever replace a sibling. I still feel a connection with him, even though he’s gone.”

Segura loved reggae music, and was pursuing a major in religious studies at the University of Calgary. He loved to travel and explore the world.
He was also an independent free spirit who was never a follower. His family always valued his confidence to make his own choices.
His mother doesn’t want to accept that he’s never coming home, and admits she is trying to cope with his loss minute by minute.
“I would give anything to have Jordan walk through the front door, for someone to come to me and say, ‘there’s been a mistake, Jordan is fine, he’ll be right over.’ That’s a daydream I have.”
