Hundreds of people took part in the 36th Calgary Police Half Marathon Sunday.

The first race started in 1980 with 250 runners, this year more than 900 people ran the half marathon. That doesn’t include participants in the five and 10 kilometre run and walk.

The first half marathon runner over the finish line this year was Duncan Marsden.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s great, it’s really good. The crowd out there and the support is amazing,” Marsden said. “I had two police officers escorting me the whole way. It was really good.”
