SASKATOON – the president of the Saskatoon Blades calls skating a “quintessential piece of Canadiana,”and that’s why he thinks the Saskatoon should consider a regulatory size outdoor rink to mark Canada’s 150th year in confederation. In a letter presented to a city committee, Steve Hogle proposes that a rink be built in the heart of Saskatoon to open January 1, 2017.
Although no specific location is mentioned in the letter, Hogle says he has worked with “some members of the Saskatoon Public School Board and administration to identify three potential sites that could be home to such a project, all vibrant communities with thousands of First Nations families and newcomers to Canada, two growing segments of our society.”
The rink would be built on asphalt, so it can be used year round.
What do you think? Should Saskatoon consider a regulatory size outdoor rink?
