The city of Saskatoon announced the beginning of phase 1 of the Central Avenue “Streetscape” Improvement Plan on July 3rd.
Central Avenue was reopened to through traffic today.
- Turning restrictions are still in effect between 109th and 110th Streets intersections.
- Parking will remain restricted until August 31st.
The two-month project will consist of road resurfacing, a multi-use path, sidewalk furniture, street trees, street lighting and a decorative fence for the CP Railway property.
Businesses will remain open as usual during the construction period, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of August.
The area’s first significant upgrade includes improvements for vehicle and pedestrian safety and the overall aesthetics of the commercial area while keeping important ties to Sutherland’s lively and significant past.
The total cost of the project is $1.6-million, which has been completely funded by administration fees on new land sales.
