MONTREAL – Ezio Toppetta, 9, is now a celebrity at his school.
Fans were dismayed as the Montreal Canadiens drop another game to the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2, but Toppetta got a special gift from Habs forward Dale Weise.
Toppetta and his friend Luca Macri, 7, were watching the Habs warm up on the ice.
First, Weise missed a shot and chucked it over the glass.
Macri caught it and – as 9-year-olds are prone to do – Toppetta instantly wanted one of his own.
Weise obliged, skating over and tossing a puck in the stands to Ezio’s father Ralph Toppetta, who then handed it to his son.
Cue: a viral reaction.

The next day at school, everyone wanted to find out what it was like to be sitting in the stands.
“Two classes came, well, one of the classes came to my class to watch the video,” Toppetta told Global News.
The Habs are likely glad such a touching moment was caught during their match, because it now seems like forever since they were firmly atop the standings of the Eastern Conference.
“The game is over, and the big news to come out of the game is the skill that these two boys showed,” said Montreal sports journalist Abe Hefter.
The Habs are now in fifth place in the Atlantic Division.
The Canadiens next play the Flyers in Philadelphia Tuesday.
