TORONTO – Subway service will start earlier than usual Sunday, but it will also cost more to ride it.
The TTC’s cash fare officially increases by 25 cents Sunday, going from $3 to $3.25. The cost of tokens or a Presto card increases 10 cents to $2.90.
Metropass, which last increased in price last March, will remain at $141.50.

The fare hike aims to help cover a budget shortfall of approximately $53 million, but it also comes with a slight service improvement.
Starting this weekend, subway service will start at 8 a.m. on Sundays, instead of the usual 9 a.m. Other service hours remain unchanged.
The time change is one of a number of improvements promised in September, including more frequent service, reduced off-peak crowding and expanded night service.
The TTC’s 2016 operating budget is projected at $1.7 billion, but its per-rider subsidy remains at just 88 cents, the lowest in North America.
