Bison at Assiniboine Park Zoo are fans of the fresh snow

WINNIPEG — A herd of bison are kicking their hooves up in the freshly fallen snow.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo captured the animals running around as the snow started to fall Wednesday morning.

“They were truly enjoying that fresh snow,” said Janice Martin, the curator of collections and behavioural husbandry at the zoo.

Martin said zoo staff notice the bison, as well as other animals such as reindeer, will act out ahead of a change in the weather.

“They have a good sense of what is coming,” said Martin, adding similar behaviour has also been noticed just before a thunderstorm.
