Long-awaited details on Syrians settling in Nova Scotia expected today

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab will provide an update on planning for Nova Scotia’s approach to humanitarian aid and refugee settlement today.

Diab will be joined by Suzanne Ley, executive director with the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration, a representative with the Emergency Management Office and a member of the business community.

The country has committed to bringing 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by the end of February, with the first 10-thousand to be resettled by the end of December.

The first planeload of government-sponsored refugees is due to arrive in Toronto tonight and a second flight is due in Montreal on Saturday.
