Transit service interrupted due to morning crash on Portage Avenue

WINNIPEG – Several Winnipeg transit routes have been re-routed due to a serious crash early Monday morning on Portage Avenue.

Transit routes needing to be re-routed are as follows 11, 21, 22, 24, 25, 40, 41, 50, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59, 67, 68, I310 and S438.

This detour affects the following stops:

• 10577 – Eastbound Portage at Sherbrook
  • Replaced by stops 10875 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage South and 10432 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage North
• 10578 – Eastbound Portage at Langside
  • Replaced by stops 10875 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage South and 10432 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage North
• 10579 – Eastbound Portage at Balmoral (U of Winnipeg)
  • Replaced by stops 10875 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage South and 10432 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage North
• 10580 – Eastbound Portage at Vaughan (The Bay)
  • Replaced by stops 10875 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage South and 10432 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage North

Reroutes are as follows:

• Routes 11 (Portage-Kildonan to Glenway), 11 (Portage-Kildonan to North Kildonan via Rothesay), 11 (Portage-Kildonan via Donwood), 40 (All Seasons Express to All Seasons), 41 (Henderson Express to Glenway), 41 (Henderson Express to North Kildonan), 54 (St. Mary’s Express to South St. Vital), 54 (St. Mary’s Express to St. Amant), 57 (Southdale Express to Southdale), 59 (South St. Anne’s Express to Aldgate) and 59 (South St. Anne’s Express to Island Lakes) from Sherbrook Street will reroute following these instructions:
  • Travel along Sherbrook Street from temporary service at stop 10432 – Northbound Sherbrook at Portage North and turn east on to Ellice Avenue
  • Continue along Ellice Avenue and turn south on to Vaughan Street
  • Continue along Vaughan Street and turn east on to Portage Avenue
  • Return to regular service
• Routes 50 (Archibald to Sage Creek), 53 (to Norwood), 55 (St.Anne’s to St. Vital Centre via Dakota), 55 (St.Anne’s to St.Vital Centre via Meadowood), 56 (to St. Boniface) and 68 (Crescent to Grosvenor & Renfrew) from Sherbrook Street will reroute following these instructions:
  • Travel along Sherbrook Street and turn east on to Ellice Avenue
  • Continue along Ellice Avenue and turn south on to Vaughan Street
  • Continue along Vaughan Street and turn east on to Portage Avenue
  • Return to regular service
• Routes 11 (Portage-Kildonan to City Hall), 11 (Portage-Kildonan to Downtown), 11 (Portage-Kildonan to Glenway), 11 (Portage-Kildonan to North Kildonan via Rothesay), 11 (Portage-Kildonan via Donwood), 21 (Portage Express to City Hall), 22 (Assiniboia Express to City Hall), 24 (Ness Express to City Hall), 25 (Ness Super Express to City Hall), 67 (Charleswood Express to City Hall), I310 (Wpg Tech English Ctr) and S438 from Portage Avenue will reroute following these instructions:
  • Travel along Portage Avenue and turn north on to Sherbrook Street
  • Continue along Sherbrook Street and turn east on to Ellice Avenue
  • Continue along Ellice Avenue and turn south on to Vaughan Street
  • Continue along Vaughan Street and turn east on to Portage Avenue
  • Return to regular service
