Share a Smile telethon raises $52,000 for Okanagan children

The Okanagan-Similkameen Neurological Society (OSNS) has helped hundreds of children with developmental delays. But they wouldn’t be able to do it without the generous support of the community.

For the past 36 years, the OSNS Share a Smile telethon has raised money to pay for anything not covered by government funding.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“What we are able to access through the government is just base funding for wages,” says OSNS executive director, Mashina Willms. “The materials, the tech support, all those things are extra and that’s what we could count on community support for.”

This year, the telethon raised approximately $52,000 – a large increase from 2014, when they raised $43,000.

Donations from this year’s telethon are being used to replace an aging hallway floor at the OSNS learning centre.
